These brief notes look at Christology in Romans, and Romans by liberal standards is an undisputed authentic letter of Paul.

Romans 1:1-6,

  1. Paul serves Christ.
  2. The gospel of God is about God’s Son who is also an earthly descendant of David.
  3. Christ was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead.
  4. Jesus Christ is the Lord of Christians.
  5. Paul blesses the church in the name of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 1:8,
Paul thanks God through Christ.

Romans 2:16,
God judges peoples secrets through Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:22-25,

  1. Righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
  2. All who believe are justified by God’s grace through the redemption from Jesus Christ.
  3. God presented Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for atonement.

Romans 8:9,
The Spirit of God is equated with the Spirit of Christ.

Romans 8:35-39,
Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 10:5-13,

  1. Believers declare that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.
  2. The Lord richly blesses all who call on him.
  3. Jesus is identified as YHWH in a quote from Joel 2:32.

Romans 14:5-12,

  1. Believers belong to Christ the Lord.
  2. Every knee will bow to YHWH according to Isaiah 45:23.
