For My A.A. Sponsor

Postby St. Michael » Fri Sep 23, 2016 11:20 am

In A.A. we get sponsors to help us out and work the steps. He's somebody we can talk to and work through our issues with. The 85 year old man who is my sponsor from A.A. and father to me (who I help out now) has been a great help to me and influence in the changed personality and spiritual awakening I've been through. When I was down and out he and his family took me in and loved me when I was unlovable. A lot of people like to get others inspirational greeting cards but I write my own. Here's what I wrote my A.A. sponsor - father - friend and had it framed with this scripture:

Without your kind love I have to say
That I wouldn't be where I'm at today
Dreams have birthed along the way
As blackened dawn turns bright day

With hope in my heart I can now see
The person I am and have wanted to be
Thanks to the love you have given to me
For Beauty in the world now sets me free

for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ ~~ Matthew 25:35-40

From my "Keep It Simple" recovery devotional

With recovery, the hope starts to return. Over time we even dare to dream again. In our dreams we are loving people. We have something to offer others. We are not scared. This is a sign that hope is returning. We fall in love again with the world, our Higher Power, and ourselves.
