The split between Catholic and Orthodox Church-When and why?

Hello,
does anybody know more about that topic?
Thanks

1054 from memory. It was based on the papal authority having too much power. The schism later became concerned about other doctrinal matters.

The final straw that broke the camel’s back was the doctrinal issue as to whether the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, or from the Father alone (the Orthodox affirming the latter).

Today, the Orthodox teaching differs substantially from the RC church on the matter of salvation, justification, etc. The Orthodox teaching is pretty much what the historic Church always taught—salvation as the process of being delivered from sin. In the middle ages, Catholicism (as well as their rebellious daughter, Protestantism) taught penal substitution.

To get the flavour of the Orthodox teaching, I recommend listening to Mikhail Hany, and Orthodox teacher, on the topic “Divine Justice”:

The above is the first in a series of 12 videos on the topic.

Thank you
