Matthew 10:33

How would an EU explain this verse to someone who's a skeptic of universalism who says this verse means Christ will reject you before the Father permanently?

Matthew 10:33-but whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

It seems the same word for "deny" (or disown) is used of Peter's denial of Christ. Also the other disciples & those who were being preached the gospel in Acts 3 who had already "denied" Him, yet were being called to repentance & salvation. Many of them believed (Acts 4).

The Greek word is used in Mt.10:33, 26:70,72; Mk.14:68,70; Lk.8:45; 12:9; 22:57; Jn.13:38; 18:25,27; Acts 3:13-14, etc:

The story of the prodigal son also comes to mind in connection with this topic.

if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. (2 Tim.2:13)
